Winters (October to January)
One of the best times to visit New Orleans is October through February. The intense summer heat begins to fade, although it's worth noting that October still falls towards the end of hurricane season. The football season is about to come, followed by the lively Oktoberfest celebration in City Park.
The city comes alive during the festive Christmas season as the year progresses. Attending the New Orleans Film Festival, sometimes known as "Cannes on the Mississippi River" due to its status as one of the most prestigious film festivals in the United States, is something you can do during the month of October. The New Orleans Film Festival is highly regarded in the film industry worldwide.
During the month of December, Celebration in the Oaks and Miracle on Fulton Street are two events that will be very enjoyable for families. Married couples want to celebrate with a romantic Reveillon dinner. The number of people attending is manageable, and as a result, hotel rates and flight costs are typically lower.
A trip to New Orleans just after the celebration of Mardi Gras will not disappoint. In April, fewer tourists result in lower hotel charges, and the average daily high temperature is 77 degrees Fahrenheit. In addition, April is considered the "festival season" in the city, as both the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival and the French Quarter Festival occur during this month.
Even if temperatures rise in May (with an average high of 84 degrees Fahrenheit), you still have time to get in and out of the area before hurricane season begins.
This significant chunk of months is grouped together because they all share several characteristics, the most prominent of which are extremely high temperatures and the presence of storms. In New Orleans, there may be days when the humidity is manageable at the beginning of June or the end of September, but the majority of the summer months (and even into the fall) are characterised by oppressive moisture levels in the air. A hurricane may throw a wrench into your vacation plans.
Only travel to New Orleans during this time of year if you are extremely interested in attending Essence Fest, participating in Restaurant Week, or spending time in New Orleans during Pride month.
