Fall (September to November)
Fall is another great time to visit Los Angeles, along with spring. Summer's scorching heat goes away, and so do the crowds of tourists. The normal temperature drops to between 79°F (26°C) and 83°F (28.5°C), which is great beach weather. The water is comfortable at 68°F (20°C) in September and October, so you should swim. Famous places in Hollywood to visit during these months include Universal Studios and the Hollywood Boulevard Walk. There will be fewer people and faster lines.
By November, the weather in Los Angeles is changing, and northern storms bring rain over the Pacific. The daytime temperature drops to 73°F (23°C), and the nighttime temperature drops to 51°F (10.5°C). There are also more rains, rock falls, and earthquakes in November than in other months. In September, the Emmy Awards and the LA County Fair take place. The Dia de los Muertos Festival and the DTLA Film Festival occur in October.
One of the best times to visit Los Angeles is in the spring. Winter's rains end in March, and the days become warm and bright. In April and May, daily highs range from 50°F (10°C) to 72°F (22°C). By May, most of the rare rain showers have stopped. These months are a great time to go outside and look around. Put on shoes that are easy to walk in, and hit the streets. Walk the Hollywood Walk of Fame with the stars. Walk through the Huntington Library's beautiful grounds.
Enjoy meals and the warm sun in the green urban parks. You can still get a great hotel room and flight deals, and there won't be as many people around as in the summer.
Every year, the Los Angeles Marathon takes place in March. The Los Angeles Times Festival of Books Fiesta Broadway is also worth seeing in April. Every year in May, there is a Jazz Reggae Festival where you can listen to jazz.
Even though it's hot, people come to the city in large numbers from June to August, which is the high season. A unique thing that happens in June has given the city the name "June Gloom." In the morning, thick blankets of fog roll in, making the city look damp and cloudy. The dark fog can last a few hours and make things much cooler. But even though it has been foggy to start the summer, many people are still coming to see the best parts of the famous city and go to the beach.
In July, the weather starts to get warmer. Every day in August, the temperature is around 85°F (29.5°C). Most tourists are on L.A.'s most popular beaches, so expect long lines at beach bars and eateries.
It's very hot when temperatures reach 90°F (32°C) in the city centre. There is a lot of smog, so the beach is the best place. The nearby Santa Monica Pier is always busy, and Malibu Beach is the best place to catch some waves.
Even though it's hot, there are great events to go to in the summer. In June, LA Pride takes place. In July, the Outfest takes place, and in August, the Nisei Week Japanese Festival occurs to enjoy the summers in Los Angeles.
Winter (December to February)
Winter in Los Angeles is cloudy, cool, and wet, but nothing that a good waterproof jacket and umbrella can't fix. The coldest month is January when average daytime temperatures drop to 55°F (13°C). Winter is considered the low season, so if you don't mind the rain and cold, you should be able to find good deals on flights and hotels.
Winter is a great time to visit museums, art galleries, and other places of cultural interest. From the Getty and the Broad to the Huntington Library and the Natural History Museum, Los Angeles is full of amazing places to visit when it's raining.
It's also time for awards! Most of LA's famous shows, like the Golden Globe Awards in January, the Grammy Awards in January or February, and the Academy Awards in February, take place in the winter. In L.A.'s Chinatown in February, don't miss the Chinese New Year and Golden Dragon Parade.
The best time to visit Los Angeles depends on your preferences and what you want to see and do. However, spring and fall are generally the best times to visit for mild weather and smaller crowds. By packing appropriately and planning, you can make the most of your trip to this vibrant city.
