Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport

Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport

Situated 5 miles southwest of Anchorage's center, Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport is a significant airport serving the U.S. state of Alaska. The airport bears the name of Ted Stevens, an Alaskan senator from 1968 until 2009. It is included as a medium-hub principal commercial service facility in the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems for 2017–2021. Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport has been essential to the development of both Anchorage and the state of Alaska for more than 50 years. With its geographic location offering limitless possibilities for transferring products and services as well as infrastructure to be employed in the global marketplace, the airport has a bright and vibrant future ahead of it.

Constructed in 1951, the airport saw service from Alaska Airlines, Northwest Orient, Pacific Northern Airlines, and Reeve Aleutian Airways in the 1950s, operating a fleet of aircraft ranging from Douglas DC-3s to Boeing 377s. Additionally, it served as a refueling station for Canadian Pacific Air Lines flights to the Far East, with one of these aircraft reportedly going missing in 1951. The southernmost runway of the airfield attached to the Kulis Air National Guard Base ran east to west from 1955 until 2011. Airport "Crossroads of the World" was the moniker given it by the mid-1980s. In the early 1990s, Anchorage's scheduled passenger service to Europe and Asia came to an end. Up until March 2005, Korean Air operated weekly scheduled flights to Anchorage; starting in 2006, the frequency of service was limited to the summer months. Alaska Airlines and Aeroflot flew from Anchorage to a number of locations in the Russian Far East throughout the 1990s.

An important hub for freight is Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport. By freight traffic, it was the busiest airport in the United States and the third busiest in the world in 2022. At 151 feet above mean sea level, Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport has 4,608 acres. Three runways are present. Ted Stevens International Airport offers convenient and hassle-free parking. The terminals are directly surrounded by short- and long-term parking areas, and our brand-new Cellphone Waiting Area is about two minutes away.
