Located in Savannah, Georgia, the United States, Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport serves both military and commercial aircraft. Access to Savannah, Georgia, Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, and surrounding towns including Bluffton and Beaufort, South Carolina, and the Golden Isles region of Coastal Georgia are all available to visitors arriving at Savannah/Hilton Head International. At seven nautical miles and eight miles northwest of the Savannah Historic District lies Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport, which is owned by the City of Savannah and operated by the Savannah Airport Commission. Between the suburban community of Pooler and Savannah, the airport's passenger terminal is easily reachable by Interstate 95. Formerly known as Chatham Field, Travis Field, and Savannah International Airport.

On September 20, 1929, Savannah Municipal Airport opened for business when Eastern Air Express began operating flights between New York City and Miami. Hunter Field Airport was named after a local resolution in 1932. In the middle of the 1930s, Hunter Field's original terminal was a trolley car. The U.S. Army Air Corps offered in 1940 to assume control of Hunter Field in the event of a conflict. In reaction to the growing military presence, the city chose to construct a second municipal airport, even though commercial aircraft still using Hunter Field. Construction of a new airplane terminal started in 1958. The east-west runway was extended again in 1962, bringing its total length to nine thousand feet. When Douglas DC-9-10 flights were inaugurated by Delta Air Lines in 1965, the jet age began. The current terminal was erected in 1994 to replace a 1960s-era six-gate facility. In July 2007, a terminal extension project was finished, bringing the total number of departure gates to 15.

This airport has over 10,000 passenger boardings (enplanements) annually, making it a key commercial service airport according to the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems for 2011–2015. The airport is located within a Foreign Trade Zone, and U.S. Customs facilities are located on the field. TSA security lane expansion is now being built in order to handle the airport's rapidly increasing passenger volume. There will be six TSA security lanes when it is finished in the fall of 2024.  By November 2025, four further gates should be finished, with construction scheduled to begin in September 2024. Additionally, two new surface lots for airport parking are anticipated to begin construction in 2024. The airport features two concrete runways.
