Sarasota Bradenton International Airport

Sarasota Bradenton International Airport

Sarasota–Bradenton International Airport is a public-use airport situated in three jurisdictions in the United States state of Florida: Sarasota County, the municipal boundaries of Sarasota, and Manatee County. It lies 3 miles north of Downtown Sarasota and 6 miles south of Bradenton. The Sarasota Manatee Airport Authority owns it. The state of Florida established the Sarasota Manatee Airport Authority as a public organization to oversee and manage the Sarasota Bradenton International Airport. The major objective of the Airport Authority's authority is to cater to Sarasota and Manatee counties' aviation requirements by acquiring, constructing, enhancing, financing, operating, and maintaining airport infrastructure. The Sarasota Manatee Airport Authority's obligation to the people it serves motivates its dedication.

At a height of thirty feet, the airport occupies 1,102 acres. Its runways are made of asphalt. There are 13 gates in all (Gates B1-B12, B14) at the airport's single terminal. October 29, 1989, was the terminal's opening day. Upon its opening, the terminal had a modest commuter concourse (Gates D1-D4) in addition to the B Gates. Comair, American Eagle, and Air Sunshine were among the carriers that could only operate ground-based commuter flights using the D gates. The D Gates featured a separate security checkpoint and baggage claim area, and they were situated at the east end of the main ticketing area. A decline in commuter flights led to the closure of the D Gates in the early 2000s. After the D Gates were shut down, the ticketing area and holding area were walled off and eventually used for various purposes, such as a huge meeting room.

There is short-term parking accessible just across the terminal building. When Long-term is full, a free shuttle runs between it and all of the overflow parking areas. Even if a flight is delayed, the shuttle service to the front of the terminal is provided from two hours before the first morning departure until after the last planned arrival aircraft. Curbside assistance for loading and unloading, plenty of accessible street-level parking, curb-cut accessible routes, automatic doors, elevators, ramped access to the gate areas, preferred seating close to all gate doors, ramped jet bridge access to all aircraft, and wheelchair-accessible restrooms and drinking fountains are all provided by the airport.
