Portland International Airport (PDX) is a joint civil-military airport known as the largest airport in Oregon, US. The airport was founded in 1936 and is spread into 3,000 acres of land (1,214 ha). The airport has one passenger terminal composed of four concourses designated B, C, D, and E. There are 60 gates in total. The airport has direct flights to several cities in the United States and other countries, such as Canada, Mexico, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Iceland. The airport is also known as a hub for Alaska Airlines. Therefore, the airline's maintenance facility is available for Alaska Air subsidiary Horizon Air.
The airport is within Portland’s city limits just south of the Columbia River in Multnomah County, 6 miles (10 kilometers) by air and 12 mi (19 km) by highway northeast of downtown Portland.
