Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport

Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is a public, civil-military airport in Maricopa County, Arizona, three miles east of the city center. As Arizona's biggest and busiest airport, PHX ranks eighth in the US and twenty-second worldwide in terms of passenger volume in 2021. It is also one of the busiest commercial airports nationwide. American Airlines uses the airport as a hub, and Frontier and Southwest Airlines use it as a base. With more than 1,000 daily flights and over 130,000 passengers, Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport has a yearly economic effect of about $44.3 billion.

The Arizona Air National Guard's 161st Air Refueling Wing (161 ARW), acquired by Air Mobility Command (AMC), is also housed at the airfield. The enclave for military personnel is called the Goldwater Air National Guard Base. The 161 ARW is one of the Arizona ANG's two flying units, and it pilots KC-135R Stratotanker aircraft. Not only does the 161 ARW serve as a National Guard unit under the Governor of Arizona, but it also serves as a USAF organization both domestically and internationally, assisting with air refueling and air mobility operations throughout the globe. At Phoenix Sky Harbor, take use of convenient travel options such as Wi-Fi, ATMs, and information kiosks. The airport is equipped with nine pet relief zones.

1962 saw the opening of Terminal 2, marking the year Sky Harbor exceeded the one million passenger threshold. Built for $2.7 million, Terminal 2 had 19 gates, 330,000 square feet, and was among the country's most advanced facilities. The late Paul Coze's three-part, 75-foot-wide Phoenix mural, which showed the city's past, present, and future at the time, was a notable feature of Terminal 2. In 2007, Terminal 2 had renovations that included an enhanced security checkpoint, as well as additional stores and eateries. Passengers may still use Terminal 3's cutting-edge amenities and services. Eleven new stores and a remodeled lobby and concession area on the second floor were built during a 1997 refurbishment project. In 1991, Terminal 4, spanning 3.9 million square feet and including 44 gates, managed 15.4 million passengers, accounting for 70% of all traffic passing through Sky Harbor. The international concourse was extended with more gates in 1998, and a sixth concourse was constructed.
