Palm Springs International Airport

The Palm Springs Municipal Airport, now known as Palm Springs International Airport, is located two miles east of Palm Springs, California's downtown. With two runways, the airport is spread on 940 acres. Although most flights take place in the fall, winter, and spring, the facility is open year-round. A 2011 ranking of "America's Most Stress-Free Airports" by Smarter Travel ranked the airport third. In 1934, Palm Springs began offering regular passenger service. Palm Springs Air Lines flew Ford Trimotor aircraft to the Union Air Terminal in Burbank, which is today known as the Hollywood Burbank Airport. Flights operated by Bonanza Air Lines started in 1957–1958 and Western Airlines in 1945–1946. San Diego, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas were all reached continuously by Western Lockheed L-188 Electras in 1964. Bonanza and its heirs For a long time, Fairchild F-27s and Douglas DC-9s were the aircraft that Air West and Hughes Airwest used to service Palm Springs. Winter 1967–1968 saw the arrival of American Airlines' Boeing 707s.

America's largest scheduled passenger plane, the McDonnell Douglas DC-10, first flew in the 1970s. American operated DC-10 aircraft to New York LaGuardia Airport via Chicago O'Hare Airport and Boeing 727-100 aircraft to Dallas/Fort Worth, Phoenix, and Los Angeles in 1976. Flying nonstop to Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and San Francisco in 1976 were Western Airlines' Boeing 727-200s and Boeing 737-200s. Delta Air, which was formed in 1987 from the merger of Western, continues to provide seasonal service to Atlanta, Minneapolis-St. Paul, and Seattle as well as year-round service to Salt Lake City (via Delta Connection) for PSP. The airport's original tower, which had been in use since 1967, was replaced with a new air traffic control tower in 2013, improving controllers' visibility of aircraft both on the airfield and at the main airport.

Plans to offer year-round service to Palm Springs were announced by Southwest Airlines in September 2020. For the first time in the airport's history, duty-free shopping will be introduced in December 2022, along with a doubling of the number of eateries and renovations to the currently operating stores. There are three components to PSP's passenger terminal: the main structure, the elevated Sonny Bono concourse to the north, and the Agua Caliente concourse. Nineteen gates make up the airport. Restrooms, a newsstand, and a restaurant are among the facilities. Beside the concourse entrance, there's a fountain as well.
