Served by the Twin Cities in the U.S. state of Minnesota, Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport, sometimes referred to as Wold–Chamberlain Field, is a combination civil–military public international airport. It's in the Unorganized Territory of Fort Snelling. The airport is conveniently placed within 10 miles (9 nautical miles) of downtown Minneapolis and downtown Saint Paul, despite being located within unorganized territory. The airport is home to various United States Air Force and Minnesota Air National Guard operations in addition to being the primary hub for commercial flights from major American and some foreign airlines. A range of aviation freight carriers also utilize the airport. The busiest airport in the Midwest is MSP.
MSP is a combination civil-military airport that serves the Air Force Reserve Command and the Air National Guard by housing the Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport Combination Air Reserve Station. The 934th Airlift Wing (934 AW) is one of the units stationed there. Fort Snelling Unorganized Territory is where the airport is situated. A few narrow portions of the airport border Richfield and Minneapolis's city borders. State law in Minnesota, however, states that the airport's covered plot of land is not a part of any municipal or school district. MSP occupies 2,930 acres. 87,000 jobs are supported by the airport, which is anticipated to bring in $15.9 billion annually for the Twin Cities economy.
Delta Air Lines has a significant hub at MSP. Sun Country Airlines, located in Minnesota, has its home airport here as well. Roughly two thirds of all passengers at the airport are carried by Delta Air Lines and its regional agents. Along with six other minor airports in the area, the Metropolitan Airports Commission is in charge of running the main airport. Two terminals and 131 gates make up Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport. The distance between the two terminals is approximately one mile, and they may be reached via different Minnesota State Highway 5 exits. Some drivers may find the layout difficult because the terminals are not connected within the airport's grounds. This means that choosing the incorrect exit might result in a delay of several minutes, and getting between terminals requires utilizing the lightrail public transportation system or the main road. The Highway 5 signage was revised in 2010 to provide greater clarity on which airlines service each terminal.
