Los Angeles International Airport

Los Angeles International Airport

In the U.S. state of California, Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is the main international airport servicing Los Angeles and the surrounding metropolitan region. LAX is situated in the Westchester neighborhood of Los Angeles, eighteen miles southwest of Downtown Los Angeles. To the north are the business and residential districts of Westchester; to the south are the cities of El Segundo and Inglewood; and to the east are the city of Los Angeles. The airport nearest to the South Bay and the Westside is LAX. The Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) division of the local government of Los Angeles is in charge of running the airport. It is also responsible for managing general aviation operations at Van Nuys Airport. With four parallel runways, the airport occupies 3,500 acres of land.

With 65,924,298 passengers handled in 2022, LAX ranked sixth in the world for airport traffic. As per the Airports Council International rankings, it remained among the top 10 busiest airports in 2023. Serving as a connecting hub for travelers heading abroad (to places like East and Southeast Asia, Australasia, Mexico, and Central America), LAX is the biggest and busiest international airport on the US West Coast and a significant international gateway. Since a far higher number of passengers start or conclude their journeys in Los Angeles than utilize it as a link, the airport is the busiest origin and destination airport in the world. According to data from LAWA, 88 percent of passengers at LAX in 2019 were those going from one place to another, and 12 percent were connecting.

In terms of both passenger and cargo traffic, LAX is the only airport in the United States to be ranked in the top five. Greater than any other airport in the US, LAX is used as a hub, focus city, or operational base by more passenger airlines. In the Greater Los Angeles Area, Burbank, John Wayne (Orange County), Long Beach, Ontario, and San Bernardino are among the airports that service the area, despite LAX being the busiest. To assist you in keeping connected while using our airport, LAX is happy to provide unrestricted free Wi-Fi. In the terminals' common spaces, free Wi-Fi is offered.
