Costilla and Miguel Hidalgo Known by its common name, Guadalajara International Airport, it is the main international airport that serves Guadalajara, Jalisco, which is the third biggest city in Mexico. Flights to and from locations in Mexico, the Americas, and Europe are made easier by it. As Volaris' main entry point into the United States, it is the airline's biggest hub. The airport is named after Miguel Hidalgo, a well-known figure in the Mexican War of Independence, and is run by Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (GAP). The launch of Aeroméxico's nonstop, Boeing 787 flights to Madrid in December 2021 marked a noteworthy turning point for Guadalajara Airport. This was the first time the airport had a direct route to Europe.
The airport serves nations in the Americas, Asia, and Europe and is the second busiest in Mexico for cargo flights. The airport also facilitates general aviation operations, flight training programs, and a number of tourism ventures. After Mexico City and Cancún, Guadalajara Airport is the third busiest in Mexico in terms of passenger traffic. It is now the 44th busiest in North America and the ninth busiest in Latin America. In 2023, it processed 17,710,200 passengers, a 13.5% increase over the 15,606,600 passengers it processed in 2022. Situated around 17 kilometers southeast of Guadalajara's downtown, the airport is situated in the municipality of Tlajomulco de Zúñiga. Three asphalt runways at an elevation of 1,529 meters above sea level characterize this airport, which is located inside the Metropolitan Zone's built-up regions.
Renovations are presently underway at the airport's single terminal, which has 89,300 square meters. Facilitating both domestic and international flights, the terminal is a two-story operation. A snack kiosk, banks, souvenir shops, car rental agencies, and domestic check-in areas are located in a commercial corridor on the ground level, which also has arrival facilities such baggage claim carousels. Four concourses, food courts, restaurants, and forty-three gates are located in the top level along with security checks and a 630-meter departures area.
