Situated in Fresno, California, the United States, Fresno Yosemite International Airport is a mixed military and public airport. Along with Yosemite, Sequoia, and Kings Canyon National Parks, it serves as the main commercial airport for the San Joaquin Valley. Along with international service to Mexico, it provides scheduled passenger flights to a number of significant airline hubs in the US. Beginning as a military airstrip, Hammer Field was located there in June 1942. Two runways are used by the airport, which is located on 1,728 acres and is owned and maintained by the city of Fresno. The old name of the airport was Fresno Air Terminal, which is represented by the airport code "FAT".
Many law enforcement, firefighting, medical, and military aviation units are based out of the airport because of its strategic location in the state. At the southeast corner of the airport lies the Fresno Air National Guard Base, which is home to the California Air National Guard's 144th Fighter Wing. Aircraft that combat aerial fires are supported by the Fresno Air Attack Base, which is located on the eastern side of the airport. The California Highway Patrol, the Fresno Police Department, the Fresno County Sheriff's Office, and the California Army National Guard are among the other governmental and military organizations holding facilities at the airport. Big SkyWest Airlines, the country's largest regional airline, has sizable operations base in Fresno.
Located 1,728 acres above mean sea level and with two asphalt runways, Fresno Yosemite International Airport is situated 336 feet above sea level. The Fresno Yosemite International Airport had 2.1 million passengers in 2022, exceeding the record for the most passengers set in 2019 and marking an 11% rise from the previous record of 1.94 million passengers that arrived and departed the airport in 2021. Paid on-site parking is available in three locations: a large lot south of the airport terminal, numerous smaller lots east of the terminal, and a 900-space parking garage south of the terminal provided by the city of Fresno. There is a separate mobile phone waiting area with stalls for vehicles waiting for arriving passengers on the southeast part of the airport site. On the west end of the terminal, the airport has a combined rental vehicle area.
