El Paso International Airport

El Paso International Airport

Situated in El Paso County, Texas, the United States, El Paso International Airport is an international airport four miles (6 km) northeast of the city center. Not only does it service Northern and Southern Mexico, but it's also the busiest commercial airport in West Texas. With 96,316 aircraft operations, it handled 3,904,110 passengers in 2023. There are 15 ramps between the two concourses, A and B, at ELP. With nine major airlines serving it, it is a hub for Southwest Airlines, which carries more than half of all travelers. Black Mesa, Carlos & Mickey's, Home Team Sports, Starbucks, PGA Tour Grill, Schlotzsky's, Cinnabon, Slice, and Tia's Mexican Restaurant are just a few stores and eateries near the airport.

1928 saw the construction of the first El Paso Municipal Airport by the City of El Paso, close to the east side of the Franklin Mountains. After the airport closed in 1945, Jobe Concrete Products' "Planeport" cement factory moved onto the site more recently. The former El Paso Municipal Airport, which is now closed, was home to Varney Speed Lines (now United Airlines) in 1934. Charles Lindbergh's visit served as the impetus for the first building of El Paso Municipal Airport. September 2013 marked the 85th anniversary of El Paso International Airport. With El Paso's long history, transportation has always been a major and continuous theme. El Paso has historically played a significant role in transportation, from the Camino Real (Royal Road) that linked Mexico City and Santa Fe to the Butterfield Trail, a vital stagecoach route that connected St. Louis to San Francisco.

Three runways are located on 6,670 acres of land at El Paso International Airport. A pier-satellite configuration characterizes the terminal. Located on the two concourses, it features a central entry with gates extending east to west. East and West concourses are located at the airport. The West Concourse contains Gates A1–A4, while the East Concourse has Gates B1–B11. Fifteen gates make up the whole airport. A lower level and a higher level are also there. The terminal is divided into two levels: the top level houses the gates, while the lower level has the rental car desk, baggage claim, ticketing, and main entrance. At the airport, visitors may find parking lots, dining options, and retail stores.
