Daniel K. Inouye International Airport

Previously known as Honolulu International Airport, Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL) is one of the biggest, busiest, and most stunning airports in the world.  It is also one of the key and the largest airport in Honolulu, Hawaii. Over 4,520 acres of fast and submerged land, it is owned and administered by the State of Hawaii Department of Transportation, making it larger than the popular tourist area of Waikiki, which is situated 10 miles to the south. HNL is home to four operational runways, the largest of which is the 12,000-foot Reef Runway, which was the first significant runway constructed totally offshore in history. More than 21 million people (both on and off) travel through Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL), which is landscaped with exquisite Hawaiian trees and flowers. Airlines operating inside the island, as well as commuter and international carriers, use the airport.

The airport complex houses the following eight federal government agencies: the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Federal Aviation Administration, Department of Agriculture, Drug Enforcement Agency, Fish and Wildlife Service, Post Office, and Transportation Security Administration.  Runways and taxiways are shared by HNL and Joint Base Pearl Harbor Hickam (JBPHH), which function as a joint usage facility. In addition to other travel-related companies, the airport features its own retail establishments, eateries, bars, business center, automated teller machines, prison, freeway, traffic signals, post office, and vehicle rental firms.

In order to run the airport, the Joint Base Pearl Harbor Hickam (JBPHH), the Federal Aviation Administration, the Airport Concessionaires Committee, and the Airline Committee of Hawaii collaborate closely. Dillingham Field (HDH) and Kalaeloa Airport (JRF) are also under the management of Daniel K. Inouye International Airport.  On July 1, 1999, Kalaeloa—the former Barbers Point Naval Air Station—was named HNL's general aviation backup airfield.  In addition to serving as a backup landing spot for commercial and military aircraft, Kalaeloa is often utilized by the Coast Guard. The main users of Dillingham Field, a specialist general aviation airfield, are parachutists and gliders. Travelers waiting for their flights have a range of alternatives at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport. Along with dining and shopping, guests may explore the Cultural Gardens, take in some free Hawaiian entertainment in the Lobby, and browse the many artworks and exhibitions spread throughout the airport.
