Chippewa County International Airport

A public airport, Chippewa County International Airport is located in Chippewa County, Michigan, in the United States. Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan's primary business center lies 15 nautical miles south of it. The Chippewa County Economic Development Corporation is the owner of the airport. The Kincheloe Air Force Base was its previous name. It is included as a non-hub principal commercial service facility in the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems for 2017–2021. As part of the federal CARES legislation, the airport was given $1.1 million in 2020 to help fight the COVID-19 epidemic. The funds were used to finish renovations and support operations amid the travel slowdown brought on by the epidemic.

At a height of 799 feet above mean sea level, Chippewa County International Airport has 1,850 acres. Two runways are available for use: the 7,203 by 150 foot 16/34 has a concrete surface, while the 5,001 by 75 foot 10/28 has an asphalt surface. September 2002 saw the opening of a new passenger terminal at the airport. Although there is just one commercial airline that serves the airport, general aviation is its primary use. In the absence of a manned and operating USAF air traffic control tower, UNICOM serves as a common traffic advisory frequency (CTAF) at 123.00 MHz. Runway 16/34 was originally 12,000 feet long, with a displaced threshold, to handle B-52 and KC-135 aircraft during the airport's employment as a Strategic Air Command facility.

Fuel for JetA and AvGas is available at the airport's FBO. Additional facilities include a crew lounge, meeting space, a courtesy vehicle, and catering. When it reopened to the public in 2022, the facility had undergone upgrades between 2020 and 2022. From a government grant, $5.5 million was provided. 14 aircraft, including 8 single-engine, 5 multi-engine, and 1 jet, were based at this airfield as of September 2020. It gives us great pleasure to provide our airline customers free parking. Parking is complimentary, regardless of the length of your stay—a few weeks or a long weekend. The parking area is spacious, well-lit, and constantly watched over by police officers. The terminal is equipped with complimentary Wi-Fi. Using a device that can connect to Wi-Fi, establish a free connection. Power outlets and/or charging stations are available at the gate waiting area.
