Blue Grass Airport

Blue Grass Airport

Six miles west of Lexington's downtown lies the public Blue Grass Airport in Fayette County, Kentucky, in the United States. The principal airport servicing central and eastern Kentucky is Blue Grass Airport, which is situated right across from Keeneland Race Course and surrounded by horse farms. At Blue Grass Airport, around 1.3 million people take off and land each year. Four major airline carriers, Allegiant Air, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and United Airlines, carried 1,316,847 passengers through the airport in 2017. The airport features two runways and occupies 911 acres (3.69 km2). The original 3,500-foot runway, 8/26, was replaced with a new 4,000-foot runway, 9/27, which opened on August 4, 2010.  The prior runway was demolished following a 2006 Delta Connection tragedy in which every passenger died except for the co-pilot after an attempt was made to take off from the incorrect, shorter runway. The new runway is located in the same area as the old one, with the exception that it overlapped runway 22.

The Aviation Museum of Kentucky, which is housed near Blue Grass Airport, has almost 25,000 square feet of exhibit space dedicated to displaying restored aircraft and memorabilia. The opening year for the current main terminal building is 1977. On April 18, 2007, Blue Grass Airport Inaugurated Concourse B, which now has six boarding gates and four more jet bridges. The Blue Grass Airport in Lexington, which is conveniently located fifteen minutes drive from the city center, makes traveling to and from our amazing city simple. It features a terminal that is convenient to walk to and two concourses. Only Blue Grass Airport offers an unmatched birds-eye view of Lexington's breathtaking horse farms and undulating bluegrass hills during takeoff and landing.

Connecting flights to locations throughout the globe are easily accessible from Blue Grass Airport, since it provides direct flights to sixteen cities. American Airlines, United, Allegiant, and Delta are the four airlines that operate out of Blue Grass Airport. A cab service, buses and hotel vans, and ride-sharing applications are just a few of the transportation options available at Blue Grass Airport. No matter what their abilities, Blue Grass Airport is dedicated to giving every visitor outstanding customer care and accommodations.
