Bishop International Airport

Bishop International Airport

Bishop International Airport serves both general aviation and commercial aircraft and is situated near Flint, Michigan, in the United States. It bears the name Arthur Giles Bishop in honor of the financier and board member of General Motors (April 12, 1851 – January 22, 1944), who in 1928 gave the airport 220 acres of his estate. Situated in the southwest region of Flint, it is encircled by Mundy Township to the south and Flint Township to the north, east, and west. In terms of airline operations, it outperformed rival MBS in Saginaw in 2002, making it the third busiest airport in Michigan after that of Detroit and Grand Rapids. Bishop International Airport saw 1,071,238 passengers in 2007; 938,914 people used the airport in 2011.

The Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems for 2021–2025 lists it as a key commercial service facility that is not focused on a hub. As of right now, three passenger airlines serve the airport: American Eagle and United Express affiliates offer regional service, while Allegiant Air offers mainline service out of the airport. Flying to thirteen American cities, the airlines provide passenger service. On February 19, 2022, Allegiant designated the airport as a priority city. Moreover, FedEx Express and a FedEx Feeder subsidiary operate out of the airport's freight facility. Phoenix/Mesa, Las Vegas, Nashville, and other Sunshine State destinations are served by Allegiant, making Flint Bishop Airport your Southeast Michigan entry point to Florida. Together with inexpensive nonstop flights to Florida and Tennessee, we also provide connections via Chicago with United and American, the two largest airlines in the world, to almost wherever in the globe.

General aviation and airline operations are managed by fixed-base operator AvFlight, which supports the airlines. Greater Flint Pilots Association, American Wings Aviation, and Crosswinds Aviation are three flying schools that have their headquarters at the property. Two runways and 1,550 acres (6 km2) make up Bishop International Airport. 78% of aircraft activities at the airport were general aviation, 21% were scheduled commercial/air taxi, and less than 1% were military for the year that ended on December 31, 2021, or 44,632 operations on average each day. 93 aircraft, comprising two jets, 21 multi-engine, and 70 single-engine aircraft, were based at this airport at that time.
