Aspen/Pitkin County Airport, also referred to as Sardy Field, is a public-use airfield owned by the county and situated in Pitkin County, Colorado, three nautical miles (6 km) northwest of Aspen's downtown. At a height of 7,820 feet (2,384 meters) above mean sea level, Aspen/Pitkin Co. Airport/Sardy Field spans an area of 573 acres (232 ha). Its single, 8,006 by 100-foot (2,440 x 30-meter) asphalt-paved runway is known as 15/33. It is classified as a non-hub major commercial service facility in the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems for 2023–2027.
The distance between Aspen and Pitkin County Airport is only 3 miles, but Snowmass Village is 6 miles away. Dallas / Fort Worth, Denver, Chicago (O'Hare), San Francisco, Los Angeles, Houston, Atlanta, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Salt Lake City, and, new this winter, Phoenix are among the cities to which it provides direct flights with United and American Airlines. These gateways provide access to hundreds of one-stop connections. Over the course of the holidays, ASE provides considerably more nonstop flights than ever before, ranging from a minimum of 220 weekly flights from 10 destinations in January to as many as 281 weekly flights.
Weekly flights are operated by United Airlines, Delta, and American Airlines out of Aspen/Pitkin County Airport. The baggage costs for skis and snowboards at Aspen/Pitkin County Airport are the same for all three main airlines that use the airport, with the regular weight restrictions applying. The goal of the airport is to provide you with an outstanding experience in an incredible setting while maintaining a safe and healthy environment.
More major carriers offer regular service to Aspen/Pitkin Co. Airport than to any other small ski town airport in North America. Over 170 regular weekly flights are operated during the winter months (not including additional flights that are frequently operated during peak vacation seasons). Apart from the frequent flights from Denver, Aspen receives around 20 flights from Chicago and Los Angeles every week.
Six vehicle rental companies, a guest services department open year-round, Jeddadiahs restaurant, and gift stores are all located in the airport terminal. To facilitate drivers who are waiting to pick up passengers, the station features a cellphone parking area. The positioning of the 40-space parking lot enables drivers to circle back to the terminal without having to re-enter HWY-82. There is no parking available in front of the airport terminal in Aspen.
